Krishnakumari Narendran's 'Navagraha Ula'
By propitiating Shiva, Sani or Saturn, gains the power to rule the lives of the mortals and celestials alike. Instigated by Narada, Sani sets forth to hold Shiva himself captive. Shiva who leaves Kailash enters a cave outside which Sani stands guard. When Shiva emerges and ridicules Sani for attempting to make him subject to his will, Sani says that by merely causing Shiva to leave Kailash and to take refuge in a cave, he Sani, has exercised his will over Shiva. Pleased at this reply, Shiva honours Sani with the title Eeswaran, proclaiming to the world that Sani henceforth will be hailed as Saneeswaran.
