Chevvai, or Mars as he is known in western astronomy, is believed to have been born from a drop of sweat that rolled off Shiva's forehead when he was in meditation. This child is brought up by Bhoomi devi who entrusts his education to Sage Bharadwaj. With his Guru's blessings Chevvai does penance to propitiate Shiva and as a result is elevated to the status of a planet. |
