Krishnakumari Narendran's 'Navagraha Ula'
Chandran ridicules Ganesha for his ungainly form and clumsy gait. A furious Ganesha curses the moon to be deprived of his beauty. When the penitent Chandran begs pardon for his folly, the effect of the curse is reduced to the extent that on the fourth night of the waxing moon in the Tamil month of Avani, mortals would consider it a sin to look at the moon. This incident is also attributed to be the mythological cause for the waxing and waning of the moon.
