COLONIAL INDIA in Photographs of Wiele and Klein.
Germans Wiele and Klein were the best known photographers based in
Madras in the late 19th and early 20th century in this part of
India. Their studio was located on Mount Road (now Anna Salai) and
in their publicity materials, they called themselves the official
photographers of the British Governor of Madras.
Their pictures document the natural and architectural spaces of
their times as well as customs and characters long forgotten.
Joachim K Bautze, a Greman expert of Indian art and on the
photography of Wiele and Klein has curated this show for Madras
Day celebrations and chosen a selection of significant pictures
for this exhibition. They were frist printed from glass plate
negatives which are now with the Vintage Vignette Collection,
Chennai.

The Madras Canvas II, an exhibition of paintings, sculpture,
installation, photography and cartoon art by 60 Chennai based
artists. The exhibits will project their artistic and emotional
response to Madras that is Chennai The Madras Canvas, whose first
edition was during Madras Week 2007, will once again pay rich
tribute to the city.
