Honouring young talent
A busy evening, a full car-park, an enthusiastic crowd. The vocal concert by eleven-year old Anantaraman kicked off the 17th anniversary Margazhi Mahotsav of Bharat Kalachar. The guests of the evening were violin maestro L. Subramaniam, his musician wife Kavitha, S. Janaki, Subbu Arumugham, Nandini Ramani, Kathadi Ramamurthy and poet Vairamutthu. And they were welcomed with recitation of 'shlokas' from Vedas by kids of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan school.
L. Subramaniam was awarded the 'Vishwa Kala Bharathi' award and the 'Gnana Kala Bharath' was conferred on cine-fame S.Janaki and villupattu artiste Subbu Arumugam.
Titles were also conferred on art critic Nandini Ramani, dramatist Kathadi Ramamurthy and poet Vairamutthu. The 'Yuva Kala Bharathi' award for young artistes was conferred on Madurai T.N.S. Following the award function, was a violin solo recital by L. Subramaniam. And of course, none can afford to miss the 'Kichdi' at Mountbatten Mani's canteen here. The fest will be on at this sabha till January 16, 2005.
