This is THE question from artistes and rasikas, that seems to be left unanswered, as we get closer to the December Season in Chennai.
The District Registrar of Societies (Central) has ruled that The Music Academy's executive committee cease functioning as it lacked legal sanctity. Last year, the Madras High Court allowed the functioning of the excecutive committee only to hold the music festival. And the committee elected in June 2001 ceased to exist from June 2004.
Now, the Academy will be able to host its annual conference and music fest only if the Madras High Court, where it is facing many legal cases, gives it special permission. This is what happened last year too, when the Academy was involved in a lot of court cases. Some of these cases are coming up before the judges in mid-November. And former committee members say they can still host the fest, if the court gives them permission now. If the court does not broach this subject, then a few private sponsors are planning to present concerts at The Music Academy's auditorium. Atleast two concerts daily held across 10 days in December are being planned. This will provide an opportunity for rasikas who are regulars at The Music Academy in December to enjoy the Season¹s flavour.
Already, Lakshmi Viswanathan is presenting a show on Dec. 17. Unfortunately, rival parties contesting the cases in court have not even agreed on the need to set aside their differences and make a joint appeal to the judges, that the fest should be held.
One option that the court may suggest is the appointment of a special officer to take care of the Academy's affairs.
