Double bill: Umayalpuram Sivaraman - Priyadarshini Govind
Mridangam maestro Umayalpuram Sivaraman and Bharatanatyam dancer Priyadarshini Govind get together to present a special concert on December 12, 6.30 pm at The Music Academy's main auditorium, T.T.K. Road, Alwarpet.
The show titled 'Sivapriya' is being put together by Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha and K.G.Foundation (founded by Priyadarshini Govind in memory of her father, K. Gopalan). Arts promoter Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti presides. Renowned Odissi dancer and Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Sonal Mansingh is the chief guest.
Says Priya, "The programme has been conceived by Sivaraman sir and we would be presenting a Bharatanatyam recital in the kutcheri format. It has been a great learning experience, and it feels good to know that there is so much to explore."
The performance commences with a tanavarnam and features keerthanams, a Thyagaraja krithi, Ragam-tanam-pallavi, padams and thillana.
Also on this occasion, audio CDs and a VCD with demo on 'Varnams' in Bharatanatyam, brought out by Swathi Soft Solutions, will be released.
