Spatika, the dancing stone...
Young mridangist-lawyer K.S.R. Anirudha takes a new 'avatar' this December Season. He is directing a contemporary dance production, 'Spatika - beyond doubt and illusion' which will premiere at The Other Festival on December 6, 2004.
Featuring seven dancers of Shree Bharatalaya, the 30-minute production weaves together movements from Bharatanatyam, Taichi, Kalari, Yoga and modern dance. And the soundscape combines Carnatic music, folk and new-age music.
Says Anirudha, "Spatika is a transparent stone that allows light to pass through without restraining any bit of it. It is this pristine quality that the human soul strives to imbibe. In this production we have tried to portray the journey of the soul, pristine like a Spatika, but beset with conflicts and confusion."
'Spatika' will also be presented for Brahma Gana Sabha on January 2, 2005. Contact, K.S.R. Anirudha, ksr_ani@yahoo.co.in
