As part of the Sundaram Finance-Mylapore Festival being held from Jan. 6 to 9, 2005, a Carnatic Music Heritage Walk is being organised in association with Sangeetham.com.
Sangeetham's V. Sriram who has been putting together walks in different parts of the city which exposes people to the heritage of Carnatic music greats, will lead the walk.
The music heritage walk will be on Jan. 9, 2005. It will start at 7am that Sunday.
The walk will start at the bungalow of Musiri Subramaniam, next to the TVS showroom, opposite Sri Anjenaya Temple on Musiri Road ( metres away from the Lifestyle showroom).
The walk will cover the houses ( or what used to be the places where the Carnatic music greats lived, practised and even performed) of Mylapore - musicians like Musiri, Ariyakudi and GNB. Sriram will also share stories of those times and of the men and women who did their bit for Carnatic music.
The walk will end at the gates of R R Sabha, which, will be demolished in early 2005. The registration fee is Rs. 150 per head and must be paid in advance at the Mylapore Times newspaper office at 77, C. P. Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet ( near the Alwarpet fly-over). Ph: 24982244 / 24671122.
The walk, which will be for about 2 hours, will end with a light south Indian breakfast at a Mylapore house near the sabha.
Sriram took people on a heritage walk of Thanjavur this season (mid December.) The Sundaram Finance-Mylapore Festival offers classical music and dance, folk arts, kolam contests, magic and quiz shows, vintage cinema and more across the four days next weekend.
