Butoh dance workshop / Chennai
The Park's 'The Other Festival' is scheduled from December 1 to 7, 2004 in Chennai. And as part of this occasion, a dance workshop is also being hosted this time in Chennai.
Conducted by Canada's acclaimed dance artiste, Denise Fujiwara, the workshop will be held from Nov.22 - Dec.1, 2004, 8 am to 1 pm at The Alliance Francaise Auditorium, College Road, Chennai. The participant fee will be Rs.950/- for the 10 day session. The workshop will include not more than 8 - 10 dancers. The audition will be held on October 3, 9 am to 12 noon at The Alliance Francaise auditorium, Chennai. The training will lead towards the creation of a dance performance that will be presented at a morning interface scheduled during The Other Festival.
Denise Fujiwara, will be performing her most acclaimed solo work by Tokyo Butoh master Natsu Nakajima, 'Sumida River', at The Other Festival. "Butoh is a modern form of dance theatre," explains Fujiwara, "but with principles that are diametrically opposed to those of 'western' contemporary dance."
