Book on music instruments
Here is a new book on music instruments.
Authored by Thanjavur based musician and scholar, Dr. Rama Kausalya, the book in Tamil is titled, 'Aalaya vazhipatil isai karuvigal' (Music instruments in Temple Worship).
The book describes in detail, the various instruments employed in temple rituals. Veena, yazh, sarangi, gethu, nadaswaram, sangu, thaarai, thavil, panchamukha vadhyam, mridangam, udukkai, urumi, thalam among various other instruments have been dealt with.
The origin of each instrument along with their usage and illustrations have been provided. The 220 page book, priced at Rs. 125, seems a handy reference for music students and researchers.
