Senior Bharatanatyam dancer and yester-year actress Vyjayanthimala Bali thrilled rasikas with her dance performance on Sunday evening at Bharat Kalachar.
It was the premiere of 'Sri Krishna Jananam', a thematic show presented as a ragam-tanam-pallavi.
Vyjayanthimala told KutcheriBuzz, "The story of Krishna's birth is well known and has been dealt with widely. And so, I wanted to focus on all the signs of nature and the unusual happenings before the birth of Krishna and the joyous dance of the Apsaras that indicate his arrival."
The production features verses from Bhagavatham and Mukundamala and the research has been done by Vyjayanthimala along with T.S. Parthasarathy, Venkatakrishnan, Bhooma and Velukudi Krishnan.
Music was set by senior musician D.K. Pattammal.
Vyjayanthimala performs this again tomorrow (Dec. 29) at 6.30 pm for Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha (Vanimahal), T. Nagar.
And she is keen to stage this at various venues in Chennai and other places in India. By the way, wonder what her age is? Says she, "I'm ageless. It doesn't matter to me, why should it bother you!"
