Honours for Yesudas

The 34th Fine Arts fest of Nungambakkam Cultural Academy Trust was inaugurated on December 10, at the Rama Rao Kala Mantap auditorium in T. Nagar.

M.A.M. Ramaswamy presided and conferred the 'Sironmani' awards on carnatic vocalist K.J. Yesudas, Bharatanatyam dancer Saraswathi and theatre artiste S. Ve. Shekar.

Dance guru Sudharani Raghupathy, A. Natarajan, former Director, DD and R.M. Desai, Executive Director, IOB felicitated the awardees.

Shilpa, a student of Revathi Ramachandran presented a Bharatanatyam recital that evening. Unfortunately, the greenrooms sporting cobwebs and an annoying room spray and unclean toilets at this auditorium, make one feel if the sabha is tired of hosting such festivals. Surely, artistes and rasikas deserve a better treatment than this!
