Geeta Chandran's 'Shringara Vaibhavam'
Dancer-choreographer Geeta Chandran presents her latest work entitled SHRINGARA VAIBHAVAM at the December season. The show is on December 29 at Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, T. Nagar.
SHRINGARA VAIBHAVAM weaves various texts from Kalidas and Bilhana to contemporary writers creating a common construct of understanding the Indian concept of Shringara (misunderstood in the narrow sense of the erotic) and creates a celebration of the human spirit where body and mind and bhakti coalesce into one creative entity.
SHRINGARA VAIBHAVAM will be presented "through the prism of Navadarshanam," a contemporary vision of tradition that empowers the artist to reach out to new urban audiences, even while strengthening the tradition in which she is located. Geeta Chandran says the concept of Navadarshanam links roots with wings. It is only when the roots are strong and mature, that one can fly the highest.
In this performance, Geeta will be accompanied on the mridangam by Vidwan Karaikudi Krishnamurthi from London.
