A non - event
The
inaugural event was advertised in all the news papers
of India with pomp and cost. Being a lover of arts and
a fan of Rukmini Devi I came from Hyderabad to be present
at this life time event and pay my homage.
For three days we went up and down to Thiruvanmiyur
for the passes. The office was busy only to receive
the Vice President of India and the Chief Minister of
Tamil Nadu. Rukmini Devi was on the back burner. Shawls
were draped on the politicians on stage - not a flower
for Rukmini - not an artiste on stage. They looked like
birds of prey.
The hall was half empty. It is a sad reflection on the
state of affairs. The Governing and the organising committee
must take the blame for the dis-service and dishonour.
We in the audience shed silent tears. Long live Kalakshetra!
