Kalakshetra
in Madras celebrates a landmark event this year. The
birth centenary of Rukmini Devi Arundale, the founder
of what is one of India's best campuses for culture.
Rukmini Devi was born on February 29, a 'leap year birthday'
as some would say. And the celebrations were inaugurated
on 1 March 2003, and will lead up to the centenary in
2004. As part of the inauguration in Madras, a museum
was opened and three books were released.
A string of dance-dramas by the Kalakshetra groups -
students and professionals - will be held in Chennai
and in the rest of India. A tour of the Far East may
take shape. And if all goes well, the group could travel
to the UK and USA in 2004. Plans are on for lec-dems,
seminars and photo exhibitions.
In this section, KutcheriBuzz presents all the
events being held as part of the centenary celebrations
- News reports, special features, lec-dem notes, photo
gallery, interviews and exclusive video reports too.
Letters from artistes and rasikas are also posted here.
And if you wish to know more about Kalakshetra, what
it offers and its founder, we have the history too.
