Magnasound has pulled off a coup of sorts by buying the rights of an entire range of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi's repertoire. The works have been brought out in a 12 cassette/CD pack called Siddhi and subtitled In Eternal Quest...., and cover a range of ragas.
The leading exponent of the kirana gharana, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi performs here a collection of Siddha raags, or ragas that he has in a metaphorical sense attained a certain mastery over. The album is a collection of such performances of the singer drawn from peak years of his performing career.
The masterpieces include Miyan-ki-todi, Ramkali, Gaud Sarang, Bhimpalasi, Puriya Dhanashree, Yaman, Shudh kalyan, Kedar, Durga, Shankara, Darbari Kanada and Miyan Malhar. Some more ragas like Deshkar and Suha Kanada have been handpicked by the maestro himself.
The set of 12 CDs is priced at Rs. 3000 and a cassette set is priced at Rs. 900.
