Charsur, doubtless, had the lucrative-looking 'devotional' market in mind, when it proceeded to produce this album. There is hardly any music in the album, only devotion. A much lesser artiste than Bombay Jayshree could have done this, just as well. Nor is Jayashree's name so inexorably entwined with 'devotional' brand of music, like M.S. is, that she should be asked to be the lead performer in this.

This is not to suggest that the sound in the album is not pleasant-- it is. Listening this cassettee is more like listening to the 'Om Namo Narayanaya' that they play in Tirupathi and other shrines, as devotees wait in the queues.

This album would be of use to only to those who want some chanting- like music in the background, when a pooja is being performed. Even here, there is a some discordance. If this is meant to enhance the divinity at a pooja function, it should have been all relating to a particular deity, which it is not. The first bit is on Lord Shiva, the second on Vishnu, the third on Kali Maheshwari and the fourth again on Rama. Now, when you are performing a Shiva pooja, you don't want the air reverberating with Rama mantra. Not that it should matter, but for the type of people who would want to buy this album, it would matter.

In sum, for those who want the nectar derived from the churning of the milky sea of Jayashree's talents, this is not the cassette to buy. Pooja-freaks, devotional institutions such as various Mutts and the like might, however, find this a good buy.
