Resonance
ResonanceResonance is a Carnatic music album with a difference! Traditional Carnatic compositions have been arranged for and performed by a Sting Quartet and it certainly gives that added edge to the well known music!

The title, soon to be released by Oriental records Inc of the US, has been produced by its founder and Chairman, Rangasami Parthasarathy who describes it as "a musical exploration of one musical tradition through another musical tradition."

In this album he takes the string quartet which is a well known format in the Western Chamber music tradition and comprising two violins, one viola and a cello and capturing through it the "emotional core" of the Carnatic Classical compositions "while retaining the subtle intricacies and the lyrical beauty of the string quartet."

The album has nine compositions ranging fro Mokshamu of Thyagaraja to Raghuvamsa sudha of Patnam Subramanya Iyer and Krishna nee begane baro of Kanakadasa. The music has been arranged for the string quartet by V. S. Narasimhan who also plays the violin as part of the quartet. Krishna Murali is on the other violin, V. R. Sekhar on the Cello and B. J. Chandran on the Viola.

The CD costs Rs. 300 and the cassette, Rs. 50. You can get copies soon at all leading music stores.
