Shashank's elaborate Jayamanohari is the highlight of this album and also the compelling reason to buy it. Both the alapana and the swaras sort of set a standard for future Jayamanoharis.
The album starts with a brief 'hum' of Revagupti, followed by the popular Gopalaka Pahimam. Revagupti is one of the early morning ragas and such a mood is amply brought forth by the rendition. The Revagupti and Jayamanohari pieces would make you feel you got your money's worth. Raghunatha Nannu in a raga called Swara Ranjani is a brisk piece and would qualify to be called a thukkada.
On the B side, one must again say that 30 minutes for a Kalyani RTP is something ill conceived. Although the Kalyani is beautifully rendered, it kind of leaves a 'not enough' taste with the listener. It would have been better if Shashank had chosen (or told to take up) a Kalyani kirtana instead. The 'move on, move on' kind of RTP is a disappointing feature of the album.
