This music fest in Chennai sets tone for December Season

Bharat Sangeet Utsav is scheduled to be held in Chennai from the 1st to the 9th of November at Narada Gana Sabha, Alwarpet, Chennai.

This fest sets the mood for the December season in this city.

It is curated by Carnatica and backed by Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha, Chennai.

On the opening day, senior vocalist Sudha Ragunathan will present a themed concert on women’s empowerment titled Sthree Shakthi with popular Hindustani flautist Ronu Majumdar, along with 200 girl children of Dr Sudha Raja’s Sargam Choir.

Earlier that evening, young prodigies Soorya Gayathri and Rahul Vellal will present ‘Bhakthi Sangeetham’ in the inaugural concert. The Bharat Samskrithi Award for Cultural Excellence will be given to their mentor, musician Kuldeep Pai, and the Bharat Sangeet Excellence Award to Carnatic musician Dr S. Sowmya.

Carnatic vocalist Aruna Sairam will team up with Ambi and Bindu Subramaniam of the ThayirSaadam project, featuring the SaPa choir. The mridangam legend Umayalpuram Sivaraman will appear in a new avatar as he presents ‘Jwaalaa’ with his team, including playback singer Haricharan Seshadri and Stephan Devassy (piano).

Carnatic music seniors Sanjay Subrahmanyan, Vijay Siva and S. Sowmya will perform traditional kutcheris at the fest.
