Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin launched the 96th edition of the annual Conference and Concerts of the Music Academy on December 15 evening.
It was an evening to honour the Sangita Kalanidhi awardee-designates and since the Academy had decided to honour artistesh this prestigious award for the years, 2019, 2021 and 2022, making up for the past two years when the fest was not held due to the pandemic, there were four artistes to honour - Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Thiruvarur Bhaktavatsalam and Lalgudi J G R Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi.
The titles will be formally presented to these four at the sadas on January 1, 2023.
Stalin said that sabhas/ places like Music Academy must encourage more of Tamil music in concerts since there was so much of it in Tamil literature and the arts, produced over many hundred years of the heritage.
Vidwan T V Gopalakrishnan formally proposed the names of the artistes for the award and vidushi S. Sowmya seconded it.
