Hyderabad-based arts academy celebrates

Shankari Natyasthal, School of Music & Dance, was started in the year 2000, imparting training in Carnatic vocal and Kuchipudi dance in Telegana state.

Today, there are 5 centres across twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, with more than 200 students, says a note from the academy.

The academy is hosting its 7th annual cultural event titled Vaggeyakara Utsavam, a tribute to ancient, medieval and contemporary musician poets.

On August 6, 8 am onwards at the Sri Tyagaraya Gana Sabha hall, Hyderabad.

The day-long event presents classical music and dance performances by over 100 students of Shankari Natyasthal, on the compositions of over 40 vaggeyakaras starting from Bharata-muni, Purandara Dasa, Bhadrachala Ramadas, Annamcharya, Jayadeva, Tulsidas, Meera Bai, Naamdev, Shyama Sastry, Tyagaraja, Dikshitar, to Madurai Mani Iyer, GNB, Lalgudi Jayaraman and Dr. M Balamuralikrishna.

Vijaya Valli Bharadwaj, musician and dancer is the director of this academy in Hyderabad.
