Celebrating Thyagaraja 250 in Mumbai

Sri Shanmukhanada Fine Arts and Sangeeta Sabha in Mumbai has been celebrating 250 years of saint Thyagaraja (marking his birth) with a series of concerts and related events at its auditorium in this city.

It opened the series with the screening of a Films Division documentary on the saint-composer and the singing of themed songs of Thygaraja by students of the Vidyalaya on the campus.

Among the theme concerts hosted this far to celebrate Thyagaraja has been that by vocalist Gayatri Girish who sang songs dedicated to deities other than Lord Rama, Thygaraja kritis on the Devi by vocalist Sertalai Renganatha Sharma, a dance drama, 'Nauka Charitram', Thygaraja's operatic work which was presented by guru Jayanthi Subramaniam and her sishyas of Chennai.

There was also  a disccourse given by Kalyanapuram Aravamudhuchariar, a lec-dem by Dr Radha Bhaskar and a concert by Dr Padma Sugavanam.
