The annual Cleveland Aradhana festival, the biggest fest in the USA for Indian classical music and dance begins on April 12 and goes on till April 23, with a string of concerts by artistes from India and the USA, besides many themed concerts besides album/book releases and awards events.
This year's festival is dedicated to the memory of Karukurichi P. Arunachalam Pillai, Prof. S. Ramanathan, Dr M. Balamuralikrishna, and Vellore G. Ramabhadran.
Scehduled here are a few highlights - T. N. Seshagopalan presents a Harikatha, violin maestro V V Subrahmanyam performs alongside young artistes in the USA, a concert of nagaswaram-tavil seniors including Vysarpadi Kodantharaman and Thirukadaiyur Babu, while percussionist Thiruvarur Vaidyanathan presents a grand percussion concert.
Also highlighted is the T V Varadarajan Tamil play baed on saint Thyagaraja which has music by Bombay Jayashri, a tribute concert to maestro Dr S Ramanathan in his centenary year by his prime sishya, S. Sowmya.
Dance has also been getting more space at this fest ; highlights this year include productions by Dr C V Chandrasekar and Sangita iswaran, by Jaikishore Mosalikanti and by Divyasena and by Bragha Bessel - each has choreographed the productions, has music scored by seniors like Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and VIjayalakshmi and by R K Shriram Kumar, feature lots of America-based artistes.
There is also Chennai-based guru Anitha Guha's dance production and Kathak concerts by maestro Birju Maharaj, Saswati Sen and Sujatha Mohapatra.
The Cleveland regulars among artistes who feature here include Aruna Sairam, Ranjani-Gayathri, Ravi Kiran, T N Krishnan and others.
There are two awards events and the fest signs off with the dance contest finale for USA artistes, since this is also now a stage for young talent.
