Nominations Invited for Kalasagar award 2017

Kalasagar will be celebrating the 93rd birth anniversary of its founder, Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, on May 28.

As part of the 93rd birth anniversary of chenda maestro Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, Kalasagar will be honoring the artistes in the field of Kathakali - Vesham, Music, Chenda, Maddalam and Chuttty as well as Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattom, Kuchipudi, Ottenthullal, Chakyarkoothu, Koodiyattam, Thayambaka and Panchavadyam - Thimila, Maddalam, Edakka, Thalam & Kombu.

The awardees will be selected through nominations received from art lovers. The minimum criteria for nomination is - the artistes should be between the ages of 40 and 70, should be well known performer/guru and a permanent resident within the state of Kerala.

Nominations with complete details of the artists should be sent to The Secretary, Kalasagar, Kavalappara, Shoranur, Palakkad, Kerala on or before April 28.

Kalamandalam Krishnankutty Poduval, a self-taught maestro of Kathakali percussion who excelled in the art of chenda playing by redefining its aesthetics as an audio accompaniment for the classical dance-drama. Kalasagar has been celebrating his birth anniversary as ’Oru Piranlnte Ormakay’ on May 28 which has now become a part of the cultural calendar of Kerala
