The annual Nishagandhi dance festival, conducted by Kerala's Department of Tourism is a seven-day cultural fiesta and is held in the Nishagandhi auditorium, in the heritage premises of the lush green Kanakakkunnu Palace in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram.
This year, the festival is on from January 20 to 26, with dancers from different genres of dance performing in the open air.
Odissi, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Manipuri, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi are some of the dance forms that will be staged.
Entry is free.
There are three dance recitals every evening on most days, from 6.30 p.m. onwards with the first being a short recital.
Among the well-known artistes listed to perform are Bengaluru-based Bharatanatyam dancer Praveen Kumar, Bimbavati Devi and her troupe presenting Manipuri, Kerala-based N. Srikanth and Aswathy Srikanth (Bharatanatyam), Ananda Kumar Jayant from Hyderabad (Kuchipudi), Madhavi Chandran and Dr Sumita Nair (Mohiniattam) and Jyotsna Jaganathan (Bharatanatyam).
