Swarnamalya's new production; new look at Silappadikaram story

Silapathikaram-dance-prodn1Ranga Mandira School of Performing Arts is staging a dance theatre production titled "Nammai Marandarai Naam Marakkamattom- I forget not even those who forget me" based on Silappadikaram.

On April 17 evening at Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai.

A note from Ranga Mandira states 'this is a grand production in which many celebrated musicians have sung. Dance, costumes and sets are all keeping with the Sangam period.

Dancer, choreographer and dance historian Dr. Swarnamalya Ganesh has woven into this drama, elements of authenticity of the Sangam period through the dance movements and music.

The uniqueness of the production is, how it takes a fresh look at this age old epic  from the point of view of the character of Madhavi. Her prowess, poise and grace in conducting her life. History has been unkind to her but she transcended life and moved in a direction that was liberating, says Swarnamalya in her note.

The original poetry of Ilango set to music keeping the Sangam music grammer in mind by K.N. Shashikiran, sung by many wellknown singers including Dr.S. Sowmya, Palakkad Sriram, Saindhavi G.V.Prakash, Haricharan, Punya Srinivas, Pradeep Kumar and Chitravina Ganesh.

It also has voice-overs by wellknown news anchor Shobana Ravi and voice artiste Kalidas.

The sets are designed by National award winner, Krishnamurthy.

Admission to this premiere show is through passes.
