The 4th edition of Akhila Karnataka Kuchipudi Nrithyotsav, the only festval of Kuchipudi exclusively for Karnataka by Natyasaraswathi Academy Bangalore was successfully celebrated..
It was a very educative and cultural contribution, as explained by the founder director of Natyasaraswathi, Dr Saraswathi Rajathesh, also a dental surgeon.
on 3rd morning
On March 3rd morning, there were lectures and demonstrations starting with guru Krishna who has a doctorate from Bangalore University elaborated in general about dance dramas and how Kuchipudi is connected to it.
Later, Bhagavatula Seturam, hailing from a family of Kuchipudi artistes and faculty of Telugu University Hyderabad elaborated on Kuchipudi in general and on old traditions and their essence. He did the abhinaya of gollakalapam, a traditonal feature of yakshaganas like bhamakalapam.
The guest of honour was Lalitha Srinivasan, a Bharatanyam guru of Bangalore expressed her happiness about the Natyasaraswathi contributions to Bangalore.
Guru Anupama Mohan, a senior disciple of Dr Vempati Chinasathyam and one who has contributed the Kuchipudi art in Kerala for the past 4 decades discussed about the need of Kuchipudi saatvika abhinaya to be improved as its essence came from dance dramas unlike Bharatanatyam. She performed the scene of Bhakta Kannappa to demonstrate the abhinaya.
Concluding the day's season was Vedantam Radesyam, a legend in Kuchipudi art and a faculty of Siddendra Kalakshetram Kuchipudi village - he performed a abhinaya piece, a padam explaining nayaki bhavas in general.
The events were held at Ananya at Malleswaram, Bangalore.
The evening sessions at Seva Sadan auditorium and the Natyasaraswathi ensemble started with rangapooja a traditional consecration of stage as written in Natyashastra - like punyavachanam, rangoli, dhoopa,deepa, flag and ganesha pooja where the Ganesha is brought in.
Later, Niharika, a disciple of Vasanth Kiran performed a Annamacharya krithi.
The special performance was by Komal Babu who performed rupanurupam, a male performing as sathyabhama a very traditional old Kuchipudi tradition bhamane sathyabhamane. He is a disciple of Vedatam Sathyanaryana Sharma and presently a faculty of Natyasaraswathi's Hyderabad branch.
Later Namata and Jagati disciples of guru Veena Murthy Vijay performed the famous balagopala tarangam .
Chaarvi presented a krithi on Mahakali. She is a disciple of Uma Rama Rao of Hyderabad and works in Bangalore.
Deepak, a Keralite working in Bangalore and a disciple of guru Anand performed a tarangam
Special guest artiste who came from Hyderabad, Preethi, a disciple of Dr Shobha Naidu performed an authentic tarangam.
As a special choreography of the evening, disciples of Dr Saraswathi - Manjula and Komal = presented a shiva taandava Kandena natarajane, a Kannada composition which is incorporated into the famed natesha kautvam.
Guru Vedantam Radesyam was conferred the Kuchipudi Natyasaraswathi Puraskar award introduced from this year, thus honouring Kuchipudi legends in the field.
A day later, guru Radesyam also conducted a workshop on Kuchipudi basics and abhinaya at Anaya
