Sacred Music Festival in Thanjavur in March  

For some years now, arts promoter Ranvir Shah and his Prakriti Foundation has been hosting the Festival of Sacred Music in Thiruvaiyaru, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.

The intention is to use heritage spaces in this small town best known for saint Thyagaraja for arts performances.

Ranvir uses lights, colour and flowers to create a special space for the recitals and hosts a variety of artistes.

This year. the Fest is to be held in early March. Here is the schedule.

March 2nd 2012

        Monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery will perform Sacred Buddhist Chants.

        Dr. Phillipe Bruguiere, an ethnomusicologist from Paris who plays the Rudra Veena

March 3rd 2012

        Nadhaswaram concert by Mylai S Mohanraj and team

        'Asima', a male vocal and percussion band from Trivandrum, which combines elements of India’s vast rhythmic and melodic systems along with the harmonic traditions of western music.

March 4th 2012

        Ambalapuzha Vijayakumar will perform Sopana Sangeetham, Ashtapadhis usually sung at temples in Kerala.

        Eminent carnatic vocalist Vidhushi Sudha Ragunathan
