New DVD: 'Nandanar Charitram' features dancer Bala Devi Chandrashekar

Bharata Natyam dancer Bala Devi Chandrashekar from Princeton, NJ (senior disciple of Dr Padma Subrahmanyam) presented the evergreen 'Nadanar Charithram' at the 2009 December season in Chennai.

Last December ( in 2010), she had packaged that production into a DVD and launched it here in Chennai.

Padma Subrahmanyam released the DVD ( produced by Swathi Soft Solutions) at the Brahma Gana Sabha fest.

Mrudangam maestro Karaikudi Krishnamurthy has played the mrudangam for this DVD. Special jathis and nattuvangam have been rendered by Karaikudi Sivakumar.

Bala Devi says she considers it a rare honour and blessing that Karaikudi Krishnamurthy has played for her recording.

She says that Karaikudi Krishnamurthy had played only for one recording - that of Dr Padma Subrahmanyam and now he has played for her senior disciple.

Last season, Bala Devi had performed 'Nandanar Charithram' as 'Geeta Nrityam' with senior singers in Chennai.

The DVD is distributed by Kalakendra and sold online.

The DVD has 2 audio CDs ( for use by dancers ) and one DVD of the recital.
