Celebrating compositions of Mangalam Ganapathy

 

Chennai-based Smt. Mangalam Ganapathy Music Trust celebrated its ninth anniversary on Jan.17.

Maestro T. N. Krishnan, the chief guest of the evening, distributed the prizes to the winners of the annual competition and mementos to the sangeetha gurus who had sent students to participate in the competition.

L. Srividya won the thambura prize for being the best singer in the seniors category of the competition.

The Trust honoured five gurus Chithra Madhavan, Annapoorani, Bhavani Santhanam, Lakshmi Krishnaswamy and Saroja Balasubramaniam.

Each of them conducted a unique annual programme of Satha Mangala Lahari, which in the past five years allows one guru to teach 100 compositions of Mangalam Ganapathy to the guru's students and then rendering all of them, morning to evening in a day.

Krishnan presented the five gurus with citations and the cash award in the presence of composer, Mangalam Ganapathy.
