Anitha Guha’s dance school Bharathanjali based in Chennai celebrates its 20th anniversary with a two day festival, on 21 and 23 November.
The event is to be held at Vani Mahal in Theayagaraya Nagar, Chennai.
On the 21st, Bharathanjali will award young and talented artistes.
On 23rd, on the occasion of the 85th birthday of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Bharathanjali Trust will confer titles on the following veterans: N S Jayalakshmi (dance guru), Dr.(Mrs) Y G Parthasarathy, (Chairman - Bharat Kalachar). R Krishnaswamy (Secretary, Narada Gana Sabha), R. Natarajan and A Sambandam (Secretaries, Chidambaram Natyanjali Trust), Dr M K Srinivasan (President and Medical director of Health Centre) and writers and critics Manna N. Srinivasan, V. R. Devika and Indhira Malavika Krithivasan
Also to be honoured is the Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI) – (Patron)
Bharathanjali will be staging the ballet Mahadevam Mahasenam Bhaje, which was presented around a decade ago. It narrates the exploits of Shiva and Muruga. Guru Anitha Guha has conceptualised and choreographed the production. The lyrics and music for the ballet have been composed by PR Vekatasubramanian.
Over fifty young dancers find a place in the ballet.
The first performance this season is scheduled for 5 December for Kartik Fine Arts at Narada Gana Sabha. There will be 12 other performances in various sabhas in the city. Mahadevam is being presented for Kala Sagaram in Secunderabad on 28th November 2010.
