Young Carnatic vocalists can now aspire to being decorated with a prestigious award which has been named after M. S. Subbulakshmi.

Instituted by The Hindu newspaper and by SaReGaMa, a RPG company which is in the music business, the institution of this award was made public at a function held in Chennai on Sept.15.

The award will go to a young artiste who impresses the jury with his/her performances during the year and more so during the annual December Season.

The jury consists of guru and vocalist R. Vedavalli, critic and journalist Gowri Ramnarayan and artiste Rajkumar Bharathi.
