Dr.Radha Bhaskar will present a lecture-demonstration on the topic “Trimurthy Vaibhavam.” - highlighting the musical excellence in the compositions of Sri Thyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar and Shyama Sastri. She will be accompanied by Mellakkaveri Thyagarajan (violin) and Mudhra Bhaskar (mrudangam). Radha says many scholars have highlighted the lyrical and spiritual aspects of the Trinity’s compositions but the purpose of this programme is to look deep into the grand musical workmanship that has gone into the making of every composition in terms of its raga, tala and format. "Also, though the Trinity were contemporaries, it is amazing to see how each of them adopted a distinct style and left behind a treasure trove of rich compositions for posterity.”
