Prayathnam is a Chennai based group of dancers and teachers who wish to 'enlighten' young dance aspirants and to provide a platform for performances, removed from the world of seeking and craving for recitals at established spaces.
This year around, the group intends to host a festival with a distinctive difference, says senior dancer Sreelatha Vinod. The idea is to hold an evening of dance hosted by one school or institution with the intent of sponsoring the venue and the stage to showcase the talent of an entirely different school.
The evening will be divided into 2 sessions of an hour each featuring both junior and senior artists.
Prayathnam has had generous offers of support and understanding to help in this endeavor and most remarkably, musicians seeing the idea, have accepted to perform for the whole evening as one event thus making a considerable reduction to their regular remuneration.
Prayathnam and its members will cover all the other expenses for the evening without any burden on the performers, says dancer and guru Sasirekha Raammohan.
The festival 'Nrithya Samarpanam' will be a monthly feature on the last Saturday of every month held at R.K Swamy Hall, Mylapore .The programme will begin at 6pm.
