Sri Parthasarathy Swami Sabha one of the oldest cultural institutions in Tamil Nadu is celebrating its 110th year by arranging special programmes from June 25, 2010 to July 4, 2010 in Chennai.
The events are at Narada Gana Sabha hall.
After the inaugural fuction on June 25, a special concert by Sudha Raghunathan is arranged. The series includes concerts by Nithyashree Mahadevan, Ranjani and Gayathri, Sikkil Gurucharan, Gayathri Venkatraghavan, Suriyaprakash and Sudharavi Prakash from Mysore.
On this special occation Visakha Hari will present a musicial discourse on Baktha Meera on June 30. Sachin Patwardhan from Indore is giving a sarod and mandolin concert on June 29.
Bharatanatyam recital by Malavika Sarukkai is on June 27 and a dance ballet on Annamacharya presented by students of guru Anitha Guha is on July 3.
Jayant Kastuar will present his Kathak performance on the concluding day July 4. The series includes two popular Thamizh plays - of S. Ve. Sekhar and Crazy Mohan.
In 1886, Manni Thirumalachariar felt the need for an institution to foster all aspects of Indian culture and began this organization, which was originally called “Sangeetha Vidwat Sabha”. In the beginning programmes were held in the residence of its founder. Later in 1900, it was registered as a public institution with the present name.
