Major music festival in Bangalore features youth
 

Ananya GML Cultural Academy has been organising Sangati youth music festival for past several years, as a part of which concerts were simultaneously held at different venues of Bangalore.

This years Sangati features a 7-day music festival from 9-05-2010 to 15-5-2010 to be held at Ananya Sabhangana at 6.30 pm everyday.

Renowned percussionist H. S. Sudhindra will inaugurate Sangati on May 9. More than 50 young artistes from all over Karnataka as well as from other states will be showcasing their talent during the festival. Many veteran musicians, musicologists and connoisseurs of music are expected to grace the programmes.

Sri Thyagarajagana Sabha Trust, BTM Cultural Academy and Sri Rama Lalitha Kala Mandira are also associated with Sangati.

The valedictory function of Sangati and presentation of Ananya awards will be held at 10 am on May 16 at Sevasadana Auditorium in Malleswaram, Bangalore.

The 15th Ananya Puraskara award is being conferred to Vidwan R. Parthasarathy, a renowned Nagaswara vidwan. Parthasarhy’s father and grand father were all well known musicians. Parthasarathy belongs to Tiger Varadachar’s school of music. Even at 73, his music has retained the purity and he adheres to a strict traditional frame work. He has received many awards including the one from Jaganmohana Palace. The Ananya Puraskara includes a cash award of Rs.10000, a citation and a memento.

The Ananya Shastra Kausthuba award meant for senior musicologists for their contribution to music is being given to Vidwan Padma Gurudatt, a well known exponent of lakshya and lakshana aspects of Carnatic classical music.

Padma Gurudatt was brought up in a music filled atmosphere. She learnt under Vidwan H. V. Venkataramaiah, obtained her Vidwath certificate, further studied under G. R. Jaya. She underwent training in mridangam with Bangalore K. Venkatram. Padma is well known for presenting Avadhana Pallavi. The award consists of cash of Rs.5000, a citation and a memento.

Vidwan Maruthi Prasad is an upcoming Carnatic musician and he is receiving this year’s Ananya Yuvapuraskara. Born blind, Maruthi Prasad sees the world through music. He was initiated into music by Vidwan Chintalapalli Suryanarayan. He has had advance training under Dr. T. S. Sathyavathi. Prasad is also well versed in tabla, keyboard and mridangam. He has bagged many awards including Telugu Academy Ugadi Puraskara, Srujana Sree Latha Award of President and The Music Acedamy Award. Ananya Yuva Puraskara consists of cash of Rs.1000, a citation and a memento.

The Ananya awards function is on May 16, 10 am onwards and will be held at Sevasadana, 14th Cross, Malleswaram, Bangalore.

Chief guests will be Manu Baligar, Director, Department of Kannada and Culture and C. R. Simha, renowned theatre and film personality. Dr. U. R. Ananthamurthy, chairman, Ananya will preside.
