Armed with two doctoral degrees (from Delhi University and Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya Mandal, Miraj) ‘Sangeetacharya Dr. Vyzarsu Balasubrahmanyam, is a musician, musicologist, composer and a guru from Andhra Pradesh.
He is the recipient of ‘Junior Research Fellowship’ and also the ‘Young Talent Merit Scholarship’ awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Recently, Dr Balasubrahmanyam released a new album. It is titled 'Brovavamma - Rare Classics of Syama Sastry'.
On this album, he is accompanied on the violin by Peri Srirama Murthy, on mridangam by Mahadevu Lakshmi Narayana Raju, and on morsing by Ghantasala Satya Sai. This CD is released by Pranathi Audios, Hydarabad.
He presents in this CD a few rare compositions from the rich treasure of Syama Sastry representing each of the musical forms - a Geetham, a Swarajathi, a Varnam and a few krithis.
As a musicologist, he has authored several books on Carnatic music and regularly writes articles, conducts lecture demonstrations, presents papers in seminars, conducts workshops and and also acts as advisor to research scholars in music.
He has composed Varnams, Krithis, Javalis and Thillanas. He has also composed music for the compositions of Annamacharya and Ramadasa. Recently, he composed music for the fusion music album ‘SAMHITHA’, featuring a fusion of Indian and Western Music, released by TIMES Music.
He is also the founder-director of Bhairavi Sangeeta Academy (Centre for Training and Research in Music), Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
