Dharani, the arts institution in Kochi, Kerala founded by Shyamala Surendran organised a grand felicitation function for Shyamala’s gurus, the Dhananjayans on April 30 at Ernakulam Fine Arts Hall.
The event was held to felicitate the duo on being awarded the national 'Padma Bhushan' awards for art.

Dr. K. G. Paulose, Vice Chancellor, Kerala Kalamandalam presided and praised the contributions made by the couple.

The President of Dharani, P. S. Sukumaran introduced the couple reading out all their important achievements, awards and contributions.

Following the function, V. P. Dhananjayan performed his celebrated production "Nandanaar Charitam" (a solo presentation) for about 75 minutes and fascinated the rasikas.

Singularly, he traversed through different emotions.

The final surprise was an extempore "Radha-maadhavam" piece performed by the couple - Dhananjayan and Shanta - obliging the spontaneous request from a section of the audience.

It was a scene of serenity, Shanta getting up from her orchestral space to the center stage and joining her husband. They held the attention of the rasikas while dancing to the beautiful music from Sasidharan (vocals), Rameshbabu (mridangam) and T. K. Padmanabhan (on the violin).

This was a grand tribute to the gurus of Shyamala and patrons of 'Dharani'.
