Well known flutist of yester years, K. R. Ganapathi passed away in Chennai on Feb. 1, 2009. He was 91.
Ganapathi was one among the flutists ranked along with T. R. Mahalingam and T. Viswanathan in the 1930s and 40s. He had a style of his own and was a composer too and had composed a few varnams.
A Kalaimamani awardee, K. R. Ganapathi served as a flute teacher at the Rasika Ranjani Sabha in Mylapore, Chennai in the 1980s. Many of his disciples including K. V. Ramanujam are graded artistes of the All India Radio.
