Ranga Mandira Trust will showcase its dance production,'Sri Valli'.
The premiere of the production will be held at Narada Gana Sabha on
Nov. 27 at 6.30pm.
Swarnamalya who has conceptualized and choreographed this dance
drama says, “The divine marriages of Gods has been told and retold
several times through our literatures, scripts, poetics and
performing arts. As I researched, the spiritual background and
meaning in the kalyanam between Lord Muruga and Sri Valli as the
Lord taking control of 'icchasakti' and thus blessing all his
creations, expounded by philosophers, writers and great minds like
Sri. Krupananda Variar truly kindled my further quest. Icchasakti,
is described in scriptures like the Malinivijaya Tantra and
Vaasistha as “That Supreme divine energy which becomes the energy of
desire when Brahman, the supporter of the universe, wishes to
create. This should be known thus and in no other way”.
This dance drama has the natya elements to celebrate a divine
wedding, the grandeur in costumes, colors, stage settings,
dialogues, the immortal poetry of Sankaradas Swamigal and
Suddhananda Bharati, classic music score by musicologist Sri. 'HMV'
Raghu, many talented musicians and dancers.
This creation is a dedication to the classic tamil film Sri Valli
produced in the 1940s by AVM starring Sri.T.R.Mahalingam.
