Sruti magazine celebrates silver jubilee

Sruti, the magazine devoted to the classical arts and theatre based in Chennai is celebrating its silver jubilee. The core events run from October 15 to 19.
While some events are to be held at 'Alapana', the residence of Sruti's founder, late N. Pattabhiraman others are to be held at exclusive places.

The events include a conversation with Aruna Sairam, a Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi concert by Jayanthi Kumaresh (veena) on Oct. 15, a presentation by R.K. Shriramkumar on 'A Glimpse into D.K. Pattammal’s Dikshitar Kriti Pathantara' , a concert by Bombay Jayashri Ramnath in memory of M. S. Subbulakshmi on Oct. 16 and a themed discussion on 'Sogasuga Mridanga Talamu' - different dimensions of percussion by K. Arun Prakash with R.K. Shriramkumar (vocal support), S. Varadarajan (violin) on Oct. 17.

Dance guru Sudharani Raghupathy talks on 'Subtle Shades : nayikas - vatsalya-bhakti' on Oct. 17, An event titled Sruti’s Sangeeta Yatra – 'down memory lane' and the presentation of Vellore Gopalachariar Award to vidwan O.V. Subramaniam.
There is another themed event titled 'Semmangudi Century' by T. M. Krishna (vocal), with Akkarai Subhalakshmi (violin), J. Vaidhyanathan (mridanga) and B. S. Purushothaman (khanjira) with Gowri Ramnarayan anchoring this event. Both on Oct. 18.

Further, on Oct. 19 dancer Anita Ratnam presents 'Pooranii - feminine Infinite' with Revathy Sankkaran (narrator), Subhiksha Rangarajan (vocal), and B.S. Purushothaman (khanjira) Indira Parthasarathy’s play 'Veedu' by Kala Nilayam wil also be staged since Sruti also features theatre in its pages.
Admission to most events is by invitation and is restricted too.

There is a special photo exhibition on “The Legends of Carnatic Music” from 19th – 25th October at The Apparao Infinity Gallery, No. 7, Wallace Gardens, 3rd Street, Nungambakkam. Ph: 2833 2226/0726
