Thiruvengadu A. Jayaraman – was well-known in the music fraternity as a senior disciple of Gana Kaladhara, Sangita Kalanidhi Madurai Shri Mani Iyer. Hailing from a highly traditional family of Vedic scholars, in Swetharanyam (Thiruvengadu), Sirgazhi district, Jayaraman chose to be a Carnatic musician by profession. His initial training in music was from Melattur Swaminatha Dikshitar.
He underwent gurukulavasam under Madurai Mani Iyer for over 20 years during which he also travelled and vocally supported him along with T. S. Vembu Iyer in concerts across the length and breadth of the country.
He has been a high class performer, who has performed all over the country and also abroad. He was ranked as a Top-grade artist by the All India Radio. He was also the recipient of many awards and titles, including the Sangeeth Natak Academy award.
The 75th birth anniversary of Jayaraman is being celebrated by his disciples, in association with Sri Parthasarathy Swamy Sabha, on September 6 at Srinivasa SastrI hall, Luz, Mylapore, Chennai, in the evening. Programme includes, a power-point presentation on guru Jayaraman, honouring veteran violinist M. S. Anantharama Iyer and vocal concert by Dr. R. Ganesh and party.
