Dance guru Jayalakshmi Arunachalam passed away on August 28 in Chidambaram. She had been ailing for some time.
Jayalakshmi was well known in the Mylapore neighbourhood of Chennai. She hailed from a nattuvanar parampara and for her contribution to the art, was awarded the 'Kalaimamani' award by the state.
She and her husband taught generations of students. She was the dance teacher at Chellammal Vidyalaya and Lady Sivaswami Girls School, Mylapore, and had trained and organised group arangetrams for 20 years.
