Matrka an organisation founded by vocalists Bombay Jayashri and T. M. Krishna, in association with Youth Association for Classical Music (YACM) is organising an event in Chennai, India exclusively for students of Carnatic music.
The fest, Svanubhava, spread over a span of six days from August 5 to 10, 2008 is for the students, by the students.
The event is organised in association with the three premier music institutions of Chennai – Kalakshetra, The Adyar Government Music College and The Teachers College of Music, The Music Academy.
There will be concerts, lec-dems, lec-concerts, educative programmes, movie reels, panel discussions, face to face conversations with artistes, listening sessions, etc., on all these days. The event will be held from 9 am to 3.30 pm on all these days.
"Through this event, we wish to expose music students to more programmes, both educative and fun. This also gives students of music an opportunity to meet and interact with each other and enjoy the experience. Every programme will be very interactive in nature giving the students an opportunity to ask questions and learn from many great artistes," say the organisers.
There will be a photograph exhibition dedicating each day to different artistes - this is put up by Sruti Foundation - movie screening of films and documentaries on the legends of Carnatic music and PowerPoint presentations consisting of rare photographs and manuscripts of great musicians.
This event is open to all music students.
