International Dance Day has been celebrated the world over since 1982, on 29th April. This day has been set by the International Dance Council which is affiliated to the United Nations.
Kanaka Sabha Performing Arts Centre in Mumbai has been promoting tclassical dance in Mumbai through programmes and teaching since 1982. This is the fifth year Kanaka Sabha is organising annual classical dance competition called 'Natya Sagara' to celebrate World Dance Day.
This event is not just for professional dancers but also for all those who are interested in dance. So Kanaka Sabha is hosting competition is meant to encourage participation among dance students who have either learnt for a long time or are fresh students and need encouragement to continue further.
This competition also provides young students an opportunity to see others of their own age studying in different dance schools, says the founder director Saroja Srinath.
The artistic director is Dr Smt Siri Rama and she says the competitions are to be held on 1st June.

The competition is open to all age groups.
Junior group - below 12 years (7 mins duration)
Senior group - 12 years to 16 years (7 mins duration)
Special group - above 16 years (12 mins duration)
