Palani Subramania Pillai Centenary celebrations / Chennai
 

Veteran percussionist of the yester years Palani M. Subramania Pillai's birth centenary will be celebrated this by his sishyas and fans, headed by K. S. Kalidas, disciple Palani M.Subramania Pillai.

The celebrations will be held on May 11, 2008 at Narada Gana Sabha, Alwarpet, Chennai from 3.30 pm onwards.

'Palani' was a taala vadya expert, equally adept in playing the mridangam and kanjira. The organisers plan to play audio clippings of the maestro at the event. A special postal cover featuring the artiste will be released on the occasion and a website dedicated to Palani Subramania Pillai will also be launched.

Vocalist Balamuralikrishna Sr, mridangists T. K. Murthy, Palghat Raghu and Guruvayur Dorai , violinist Lalgudi Jayaraman will pay tribute to the artiste.

The celebrations will conclude with a vocal recital by Madurai T. N. Seshagopalan, accompanied by M. Chandrasekaranon the violin, Trissoor C. Narendran on the mridangam and B. S. Purushotaman on the kanjira

The chief Patron of the celebration committte is senior vocalist Chengalpattu Ranganathan and the trustees are mridangists K. S. Kalidas, Guruvayur Dorai, Trichy Sankaran, Madirimangalam Swaminathan, A. V. Ragguprasad, Mannarkoil J. Balaji and K. Arunprakash.
