Chennai based industrial construction major Larsen and Toubro, has thought of a new theme for this year's calendar.
This company which brings out calendars from April to March to coincide with Indian / Tamil year, with Indian themes for the past five years has thought of music this year.

"The calendar from April to March is appropriate for us too, as our financial year starts from April." said K.V. Rangaswami, member of the board, Larsen & Toubro at the release function.

The 12 chakras in which the 72 melakartha ragas are grouped from the theme for the 12 months in this calendar.
Vocalist, musicologist and veteran artist S. Rajam has done exclusive paintings for this calendar.
The calendar was released at the Music Academy on April 14.
"For L & T which is in its 70th year and the Music Academy into its 80th year, and a calendar in 72 melakartha ragas, this is a special occasion." said N. Murali, president of the Music Academy, Chennai.

The musician-painter had scripted the explanation for each of his paintings and his disciple Gayathri Sundaresan presented on the multi-media screen.

The system of classifying the melakartha ragas into 12 chakras by Venkatamakhi, taking into the vivadi swaras was explained by Rajam and ethnomusicologist S. A. K. Durga.
S. Rajam, a lover of vivadi ragas insisted that the concerts at the 'academy' during the 'season' should have at least one vivadi raga sung or played.
This calendar has the paintings of the names of the chakras visualised by the artist, has one painting based on a kriti by Thyagaraja. The first of the chakra - Indu, which is a single moon was depicted as a portrayal of Lord Rama through the kriti 'Oka bana, oka maata. . which denotes the number one.
The other painting depicting Dikshitar's Panchalinga Kshetra kritis is for the fifth chakra - Bana.
