Association of Bharatanatyam Artistes of India (ABHAI), a chennai based group of Bharatanatyam artistes, accompanists and gurus, are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.
The celebrations will take place on Nov. 3, 2007 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore, Chennai from 3 pm onwards.
Founded by Pakkriswamy Pillai, in the year 1988, this association functions for the welfare of the dance community. As part of their activities, the association conducts monthly workshops in Bharatanatyam, to impart advanced learning to the artistes.
The association will confer the title Natya Kalanidhi to the well known dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai, based in Ahmedabad.
The celebrations will begin with the presentation of dances by young artistes who have learnt the art during the monthly workshops at 3pm.
The artsistes / gurus who conducted the workshops will be honoured at this event. Adyar K. Lakshman, Samyuktha Varadarajan, K. Gopinathan, S. Sivakumar, Vijay Madhavan and Deepa Baba Prasad will be honoured.
Rewanta Sarabhai will present a Bharatanatyam recital at 6.15 pm,
From 7 pm three group presentation - 'Srushti' by Gayathri Balagurunathan, 'Sthithi' by Sheela Unnikrishnan and 'Layam' by Lakshmi Ramaswamy and disciples will be featured.
